The Pfeiffer University baseball team earned a USA South series sweep over Greensboro with two wins at Ted Leonard Park on Monday afternoon by scores of 9-7 and 15-2. The Falcons improved to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the USA South.

The Falcons put up three runs in the first and four in the seventh and held on in the ninth to take the 9-7 conference win.

Chaston Gordon kept his hot streak alive with a two-RBI single in the first inning, driving in Hayden McGraw and Kirby Lambert. McGraw reached on a single while Lambert doubled through the right side. Bryce Marsh would score the third Falcon run of the frame on a fielding error.

Pfeiffer scored another run in the third, this time off a bases loaded groundout from Zach Ferrell.  Greensboro put three on the board on their half of the third inning, to cut the lead to 4-3, but Pfeiffer scored again in the fourth inning, this time coming on a Kirby Lambert single up the middle that brought home McGraw.

After Greensboro (2-8, 2-3) made it 5-4 with a run in the sixth, the Falcon offense plated four runs in the seventh.  Bryan Kowalski supplied an RBI double and McGraw drove in two with a single up the middle.  Striplin would then rip a double and McGraw would score on an error, making it 9-4.

Greensboro then scored three in the top of the ninth inning, but Cameron Reid would gain the final out of the game as Pfeiffer claimed the 9-7 win.

Will Altemuller picked up the win for Pfeiffer with one strikeout in three innings of relief. At the plate, Striplin and Marsh each had three hits.

The Falcons started game two with a bang, scoring six runs in the first inning and never looked back, taking the win in game two in seven innings.

Pfeiffer led off the game with a single from Hayden McGraw. McGraw advanced to second on a passed ball and to third base when Mason Striplin singled, putting runners at the corners.  Kirby Lambert would then knock a double to left center, driving both Striplin and McGraw home, making it 2-0.  After Chaston Gordon walked, Bryce Marsh would single to left field and load the bases. A Blake Winebarger single drove in Lambert, making it 3-0.  A sacrifice fly from Zach Ferrell made it 4-0 and then Bryan Kowalski singled, loading the bases again.  McGraw then laced a two-run double down the right field line, pushing the lead to 6-0.  The Falcons had seven hits in the opening frame.

In the third inning, Pfeiffer added two more runs pushing the lead to 9-2.  Lambert started the inning with a triple to right center and would score on a Chaston Gordon groundout.  Marsh then came up and lifted a homer, his third of the season.

The Falcon lead would swell to 10-2 in the fourth, as Pfeiffer pushed across two more runs thanks to an RBI single from Lambert and an RBI sacrifice fly from Marsh.

Pfeiffer added five more runs in the seventh inning, making it 15-2.  In the frame, Marsh supplied a two-RBI single to bring the lead to 12-2.  Not to be outdone, Ira Dorin stroked a two-run double, scoring Marsh and Gantt while Kowalski got into the action as he doubled, driving in Dorin to cap the scoring at 15-2.  The Falcons then held steady in the seventh, taking the win by the run-rule.

Matt Moser got the pitching win for the Falcons, improving to 2-0 on the season.  He threw 5.0 innings and allowed just four hits and struck out three.  Grayson Huneycutt got two innings of work, giving up two hits while striking out one.

At the plate, Lambert was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. McGraw and Marsh added three hits each with Marsh driving in four runs.

Pfeiffer will entertain St. Andrews on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
