Gray Stone wins Quiz Bowl

Gray Stone Day School picked up the win in the Stanly County High School 2019 Quiz Bowl conducted at Stanly Community College’s Albemarle campus.
This academic competition is designed to recognize and encourage academically-oriented high school students.
After months of preparation, teams from Albemarle High School, Gray Stone, North Stanly High School, Stanly Early College, South Stanly High School and West Stanly High School competed against one another.
The Gray Stone team is coached by Clay Honeycutt, Wesley Dry and Ryan Habeeb.
The double elimination competition ended with a final match between West Stanly High School and Gray Stone Day School.
The Gray Stone team was presented a trophy to be displayed at the school, as well as $150 cash prize.
The event and prizes were sponsored by Stanly Community College, Pfeiffer University, Stanly County Schools, Gray Stone Day School, Uwharrie Bank and the Stanly County Public Library.
Gray Stone Day School will compete in the Regional Quiz Bowl at 10 a.m. March 23 at the Halifax County Agricultural Center Auditorium, Halifax.
“There is a great deal of hard work that goes into making this day a success,” said Tanya Nicks, SCC instructor and quiz bowl committee chairwoman. “I would like to thank all our sponsors, coaches, volunteers and especially the students for participating and making this year’s quiz bowl another success.”
