The Pfeiffer University baseball team extended their winning streak to a season-best 10 games after sweeping a nonconference doubleheader against Oglethorpe University by scores of 9-8 and 13-5 at Joe Ferebee Field on Tuesday.

Ira Dorin singled down the third base line on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the ninth to drive in the winning run, as the Falcons (21-4) downed Oglethorpe (9-20) in the opening game.

Dorin finished the game 2 of 5 with two RBIs while teammate Chaston Gordon had a great offensive outing, going 3 of 4 with two RBIs. All three of Gordon’s hits were for extra bases, as she clubbed a pair of doubles on the day including a solo home run to left center in the fourth inning.

Zach Ferrell also finished with a pair of RBIs, going 2-of-4 on the day with a double.

In Game Two, the Falcon offense kept clicking, as Pfeiffer struck for six runs in the first inning. The big hit came when Kyler Fairchild smashed a grand slam to left field, capping the scoring in the inning, with Pfeiffer leading 6-0.

The Falcons added runs in the second and third inning to jump ahead 8-0, but Oglethorpe plated three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to draw to 8-4.

Pfeiffer answered in the sixth inning, as they pushed across five more runs to establish the 13-4 lead. In the frame, Dorin, Fairchild, Ferrell and Mason Striplin each drove in a run.

Oglethorpe would score one run in the seventh to provide the 13-5 final.

Pfeiffer’s Grayson Huneyutt earned the win for Pfeiffer in game two while Bryce Marsh picked up the win in game one.

Huneycutt struck out four batters while working through 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one run.

The Falcons will take to the road this upcoming weekend, jumping back into USA South play with a three-game series at LaGrange. Game One of the series will be on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Phil Williams Stadium in LaGrange, Ga.
