Pfeiffer women claim 10-8 lacrosse road win

Junior Meagan Bourque had four goals while fellow Kaley Hyatt netted three as the Pfeiffer University women’s lacrosse team took a 10-8 USA South win over Averett on Tuesday afternoon at Campbell Stadium in Danville, Virginia.
Five different Falcons (8-1, 7-1 USA South) scored with Bourque leading the way with four goals. Kaley Hyatt netted three goals while Gabby Bosak, Sophia Griffin and Startraya Galloway each scored one each in the win. Bosak led the way with four assists while Amber Briggs had two. Griffin, Hyatt and Hailey Metzger also had an assist each.
The game was hotly contested throughout as Pfeiffer jumped ahead 1-0 after Hyatt scored her eighth goal of the season to put the Falcons up 1-0 at the 24:58 mark. Averett (10-4, 6-2) responded with goals at 23:57 and 19:25 to take the 2-1 lead.
Pfeiffer then scored three-straight, with a pair from Bourque and another from Hyatt to boost the lead to 4-2 with 13:57 remaining in the first half. An Averett goal at 12:43 made it 4-3, but Bourque added another score at 8:27 to push the Falcon cushion to 5-3.
Averett then closed the half with three straight goals with the final score coming just nine seconds before halftime, giving the Cougars the 6-5 lead at the break.
Pfeiffer responded early in the second half when Bourque scored at 28:46 followed by a goal at 18:29 from Bosak, giving Pfeiffer the 7-6 lead. Averett then tied it at 7-7 with a score at 12:15, but goals by Startraya Galloway at 11:12 and Sophia Griffin at 9:16 gave the lead back to the Falcons at 9-7.
Averett then got their final score of the game at 5:49 off a free position shot, closing to within 9-8, but Kaley Hyatt put the game out of reach with a score at 2:02 to provide the 10-8 final.
Falcon goalkeeper Sam Hanlon improved to 8-1 on the season while making seven saves.
With the road portion of their regular season complete, the Falcons will return home for the first of three home games to end the regular season this upcoming Saturday against the Huntingdon Hawks at 1 p.m.
