STANLY WEATHER: Thunderstorms likely this afternoon

Don’t put those umbrellas away yet.

After seeing a good bit of rain Monday afternoon and night, Stanly County can expect a few strong to severe thunderstorms today, according to the National Weather Service.

NWS predicts local wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters between noon and 8 p.m., mainly after 4 p.m.

Rainfall could total between a tenth and quarter of an inch, though thunderstorms could produce higher amounts in spots.

Tuesday’s high is expected to be near 80.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms exists prior to 11 p.m., but a slight chance continues until 2 a.m. Wednesday. A low is projected around 54.
