He became the seventh men’s basketball player in West Stanly history to accumulate 1,000 points with his efforts this season.

The next chapter in the basketball career of Colts center Hayden Greene starts this fall when he will attend and play basketball at Div. III Guilford College in Greensboro.

Greene said he chose the Quakers because its close to home and he likes the program there adding they have “great coaches and great players” along with the atmosphere of the institution on his visits.

He added Greensboro “is a great town” and living in the big city will be fun.

Guilford had shown their commitment to recruiting him all season long, Greene said, noting that at least one assistant coach was at nearly every home game the Colts had this season.

“They really wanted me and I wanted to be loyal to them,” Greene said.

Greene celebrated his signing with Guilford last week in the West Stanly High School Media Center along with his parents and a number of teammates from both the basketball and track teams.

West head coach John Thompson spoke at the event saying “it’s a big testament to (Hayden’s) work ethic. The thing I told everybody including the coaches recruiting him was as good a player as he is, he’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever coached.”

He added he was going to miss Greene who played for four years with the Colts.
