Arts Guild offers Hartley Scholarship

The Stanly Arts Guild will offer an art scholarship to be awarded in June. A $1,000 scholarship will be announced at the June 6 meeting of the guild.

The Patricia Blake Hartley Scholarship, established as a memorial to Patricia Blake Hartley, a long-time member and supporter of the guild.

The scholarship is awarded annually to a college student from Stanly County (preferably a junior or senior) who is enrolled as a visual arts or arts education major.

A check for $1,000, to be applied to tuition costs, will be paid directly to the college in attendance of the scholarship winner.

Application requirements must be completed and returned by 3 p.m. May 18, to be considered for this award.

Last year’s winner Sophia Montoya, daughter of Troy L. French and Sandra I. Jurado, is attending Stanly Community College and working toward an arts education degree.

Carole Poplin, scholarship chair, said applications are available at the Stanly Arts Guild, 330C N. Second St., Albemarle.
