Stanly Community College has announced its winners of the annual art show.

Every year, the college encourages students, faculty and staff to display their creative pieces for public viewing. This year’s exhibit showcased several genres that included oil paintings, pencil drawings, sculptures, digital art and photography.

During a reception last month, Josh Gooch, SCC’s advertising and graphic design program head, thanked guests and artists for attending the reception, the library for hosting the event, and the Student Government Association for sponsoring the award ribbons for the show.

“Every piece of artwork, whether it’s a photograph or a sculpture, should help us aspire to look for the beauty and inspiration that is all around us,” Gooch said.

The winners include: Abby Furr of Albemarle, first place, for “Sunflower at Sunset;” Josh Woodward of Locust, second place, for “Rockin’ 60s;” and Nina Efird of New London, third place, for “Christmas Magic.”

Honorable mentions were awarded to Dan Wray of Albemarle for “Brolly Blue” (Water Drop), Jamie Hedrick of Stanfield for “Peacock Feather” and Miranda Marbry of Norwood for “How’d I Get Up Here.”

President’s Choice awards went to Efrid for “Christmas Magic” and Casey Stirewalt of Albemarle for “Steve Carell/Michael Scott.”

Faculty/Staff Best Of Show award went to Derek Kent of Monroe for “Silver Dragon.” To view the artwork for award winners, honorable mentions and president’s choice awards, visit the college’s website at www.stanly.edu.
