A Facebook post by Stanly County Emergency Management alerted residents about a possible gas leak Thursday afternoon in downtown Albemarle.

Upon investigation by a Piedmont Natural Gas crew in the vicinity, it was determined to not be a natural gas leak, but rather the smell of propane tanks being destroyed by a local business, a spokeswoman with Piedmont Natural Gas said.
