The Stanfield Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the 2019-2020 budget June 6.

Under the budget, the tax rate remains at 32 cents and the total expenditures total $1.4 million.

The board also approved rezoning of 60 acres of land on Big Lick Road from Residential Agricultural (RA) to Residential 12,000 (R12) and also amended zoning ordinance 4-12 (B).

Commissioner James Griffin said the Stanfield police picked out a canine that will be part of the police force.

The board discussed and supported the addition of a police dog during March’s council meeting.

The canine, assigned to the Stanfield Police Department, would cost about $20,000, with an additional $155 for liability each year, Griffin said at a previous council meeting. Police dogs usually serve six to eight years.

Lt. Jimmy Schneider, who will be in custody and control of the dog, is currently visiting the dog and getting to know him.

Griffin said the dog will start work with the police during the first week of October.

Commissioner Larry Sides reminded everyone present about the town’s Outdoor Market, which will be Saturday at Log Barn Park.
