Stanly schools claim Wells Fargo Conference Cups

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association recently announced the winners of the 2019 Wells Fargo Conference Cups awarded to schools’ overall performances in athletics in terms of how teams finish in the conference standings.

Two Stanly high schools, West Stanly and North Stanly, claimed their respective Wells Fargo Conference cups after the spring seasons concluded in June. The Colts won the Rocky River Conference 2A cup while the Comets claimed the Yadkin Valley 1A cup.

The Colts claimed spring titles in softball, men’s and women’s track and were second place in both men’s golf and baseball finishing with 98 points.

Mount Pleasant finished second winning titles in baseball and men’s tennis to finish with 82.5 points.

Central Academy was third with 77.5 points followed by Forest Hills (63), Anson County (45.5) and East Montgomery (43.5).

North Stanly took the Yadkin Valley Cup after winning spring championships in baseball and women’s track along with third place in softball. The Comets finished with 810 points for the season.

Gray Stone finished second with 712.5 points after winning titles in women’s soccer and men’s tennis, with South Stanly taking third winning the softball title and finishing second in men’s tennis.

North Moore was fourth with 630 points followed by West Montgomery (547.5), South Davidson (542.5), Albemarle (485), Uwharrie Charter (437.5) and North Rowan (415).
