Albemarle Police Department is searching for the suspect responsible for the killing of a 17-year-old early Saturday morning.

In a press release Saturday, Albemarle Police said officers responded to 1518 Inger St.  at 2:37 a.m. in response to gunshots in the area.

At the scene, officers found Joseph Marcell Desouza on the floor with blood around his abdomen area. Police say he was unconscious, with no pulse. First aid was administered until EMS and fire personnel arrived. They were unable to revive Desouza.

Officers are collecting evidence and the N.C. Bureau of Investigations has been called in for assistance.

Witnesses, police say, noticed a gray or gold/silver Honda Accord in the area and believe it may be involved in the shooting.
