The proposed budget passed in the Senate and House has been vetoed by Gov. Roy Cooper.

The budget proposal would provide funding to prepare the Stanly County Airport for the 2020 Republican Convention in Charlotte, according to a press release from State. Sen. Carl Ford (R-Stanly).

Legislators were considering providing Stanly with an $85,000 grant.

“It is my understanding this is to help offset the cost of emergency response preparation and staging at the Airport facility,” said County Manager Andy Lucas.

Stanly is the only county receiving funding of this kind in the proposed budget.

The proposed budget included:

  • Allocate roughly $13.7 million to Stanly County Schools;
  • Provide a $50,000 grant to go towards Badin’s parks; and
  • Secure a $50,000 grant for the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office for the purchase of bulletproof vests.
