SCS makes principal changes

With each summer comes new school positions. Several schools are getting new principals and assistant principals for the upcoming school year.

Chad Parker, who was assistant principal at Statesville High School in Iredell County, has been named principal at South Stanly High School, replacing Tanya Crisco, who will be a testing and career ready coordinator at Albemarle High.

Originally from Virginia, Parker has worked as a teacher and assistant principal in Iredell and Mecklenburg counties since 2006, according to information from Statesville’s website. He’s a graduate of Christopher Newport University and Appalachian State University.

Benjamin Goodwin, who was assistant principal at Marlboro High School in Bennettsville, S. C., has been named principal at North Stanly Middle School, replacing Terri Crocker, who will be an English teacher at Albemarle Middle.

A graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, Goodwin originally taught at Guilford County before moving to South Carolina, where he held many different educational jobs, according to his LinkedIn page.

Dr. Erik Johnson, who was principal at G.W. Carver Elementary School in Kannapolis, has been named principal at East Albemarle Elementary, replacing Jonathan Brooks, who is going to be principal at Eastway Elementary in Durham.

Johnson is a graduate from Ripon College in Wisconsin, National Louis University in Illinois and Wingate University, according to information from G.W. Carver’s website.

Mandy Efird, who was assistant principal at West Stanly Middle, has been named principal at Norwood Elementary, replacing Jency Speight, who is going to be assistant principal at West Stanly Middle.

There are several new assistant principals.

Carolyn Downing, who worked at the Duke University Talent Identification Program, has been named assistant principal at North Stanly High School.

Bryan Mills, who was a social studies teacher and cross country coach at North Rowan Middle School, has been named assistant principal/dean of students at North Stanly.

Jodi Autry, who worked in Union County, has been named assistant principal at South Stanly High.

Laura Huneycutt, who was assistant principal at North Stanly High, is now assistant principal at Stanly Early College STEM.

Wendy Cirksena, a Stanly County native who was the special education director for the Owatonna School District in Minnesota, has been named assistant principal at Albemarle Middle.

Jennifer Flowe, who was interim assistant principal and STEM teacher at West Stanly Middle, has been named assistant principal at North Stanly Middle.

Stephanie Odum, an assistant principal at Albemarle Middle, has been named assistant principal at West Stanly Middle.

Tezella Cline, who was assistant principal at North Stanly Middle, has been named assistant principal at East Albemarle Elementary.

Erica Thompson, an assistant principal at Central Elementary, has been named assistant principal at Norwood Elementary.
