Commissioner Rick Williams resigned from the Stanfield Town Council during Thursday night’s meeting.

He and his wife are moving from their home in Stanfield to their smaller property on Lake Tillery.

Because his wife, a teacher, is out of school, “we figured it’s a good time to start moving,” he said.

This was a planned move for Williams.

“I knew I couldn’t serve on Stanfield council and not be a resident,” he said.

Williams and his family have always maintained a home on the lake as a summer property, but they decided to remodel it and move to the lake full time.

Williams said he has not ruled out running for elected office in the county in 2020 and has talked to several people about the subject.

“We’ll see what happens,” he said.
