Mission Baptist Church in Locust is recovering after a massive lightning strike Friday.

Sunday services were canceled due to the strike.

The strike affected the church’s internet and Wi-Fi access, along with lighting in the sanctuary, sound equipment, second floor air conditioning and the elevator.

There was no structural damage to the church and the power never went out, said Gwen Jones, who works in the church’s office.

The church is working to restore internet access and air conditioning, Jones said, but the problems should be fixed this week and should not affect Sunday’s worship services.
