The YMCA Strong Communities 5K falls on the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and will have a throwback theme to celebrate the legendary festival.

Tye dye shirts, retro door prizes, music from the 60’s will greet runners for Saturday morning’s race starting and finishing at the Stanly County Family YMCA.

To beat the summer heat, the race will start at 7:30 am. Packet pick-up will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday at Vac & Dash and Saturday at 6:30 am at the YMCA Pavilion.

Also, Vac & Dash has donated two $25.00 gift certificates to be donated to the best male and female runner dressed like the 60’s. Again this year, with a $6 donation, participants can sponsor a backpack to help the Y reduce childhood hunger.

All money raised through this campaign will support the Y’s Backpack Program which provides 40 backpacks a weekend to pre-K students whom are food deprived across Stanly County.

In addition to donations collected, 100 percent of registration fees go to the Stanly County Family YMCA’s Strong Communities Fund to support the six signature programs of the Y.

Runners may register at Runsignup.com or at Vac & Dash. The registration fee is $35. Runners can save $5 by using coupon code: summer.
