A former Pfeiffer University chief financial officer received 32 months in prison Monday at the Middle District Court in Greensboro for the federal charge of making “a materially false, fictitious and fraudulent statement” in connection to a loss of more than $500,000.

Jeffrey Byron Plyler, 57, who worked as the university’s CFO from October 2013 to October 2018, pled guilty in April in connection to a forged signature on an Internal Revenue Service Form W-9 and was given a $10,000 unsecured bond.

Plyler forged the signature in order to receive payment from Pfeiffer University on a fraudulent invoice.

He had been implicated in a scheme that took more than $525,000 from the small private university in Misenheimer over a four-year period from January 2014 until the fraudulent activity was discovered in September 2018.

After his 32 months’ imprisonment, Plyler will spend three years on supervised release and will be ordered to pay restitution of $519,874.08.
