Students enrolled in the Stanly Community College Respiratory Therapy program recently had the opportunity to volunteer at the Anson County Asthma Camp sponsored by Atrium Union. The camp was at the Firemen’s Training Center in Wadesboro.

SCC’s respiratory therapy students were able to aid children attending the camp with swimming, cooking, arts and crafts, outside recreational games and inside educational games.

The respiratory therapy students also assisted the campers on a field trip to the nature museum. While at the museum, campers took a nature walk through the forest and across the swamp where they learned about different plants, trees and wildlife.

SCC’s respiratory therapy students were able to educate the children about the triggers, symptoms and medications regarding asthma.

On the last day of the camp, the children put a skit together for their parents to show how much they had learned over the past week about asthma.
