In varsity football games Friday night, South Stanly went on the road to Union County to face Union Academy while North Stanly hosted the Piedmont Panthers.
South Stanly 36, Union Academy 13
The Bulls got three touchdowns from starting quarterback Jaquez Cooke as South bounced back from Monday’s opening loss with a road win over the Cardinals.
Cooke threw touchdown passes to Jaderian Smith and Justin Gaddy while running in a touchdown of his own for South (1-1).
Marcus Greene added two rushing touchdowns as well for the Bulls.
South returns home this coming Friday to host Jordan-Matthews (0-2) who lost on Friday to Oak Hill, 55-0.
Piedmont 24, North Stanly 0
The Comets were shut out for just the second time since the 2013 season on Friday night, losing to the 3A Panthers 24-0.
North Stanly (0-2) is off this week.
