The Stanfield Town Council voted Thursday night to approve a tax incentive development grant for the Stanfield company Stanley Engineered Fastening.

The company will invest an estimated $1.1 million and create at least five new jobs within the next 18 months.

The county commissioners approved the development grant during their last meeting in August.

Stanley Engineered Fastening is a global company with 37 plants around the world, including 15 in North America. The Stanfield location is under the Avdel brand, which makes an assortment of rivets, lock bolts and engineered fasteners, according to its website.

The company has around 100 employees and has been in Stanfield since 1995.

“The Town of Stanfield welcomes the opportunity to participate in a long-time local employer being able to expand and bring more jobs to the area,” Mayor Kevin Barbee said. “Stanfield is proud to partner with Stanley Engineered Fastening to get it done.”

The council also:

• Agreed to the proposal of creating a night curfew for minors younger than 18.

“There is no rhyme nor reason that a child under the age of 18 should be out walking the streets,” Commissioner James Griffin said.

He said nothing good happens after midnight.

The proposal will be written up and a public hearing will held in the future.

• Approved a public hearing for two new zoning districts: PR (public recreation) and R15 (residential 15,000 square feet). Public recreation would be used to rezone the Stanfield Log Barn and Pete Henkel Park. The public hearing will be during the October meeting.

• Appointed Anita Newhouse to serve as the new inside alternate member of the Planning and Zoning Board. She will replace Faye Love, who was sworn in as town commissioner during the August meeting.

• Was informed that a Dutch shepherd that will soon join the force is in K-9 training with Lt. Jimmy Schneider. The training should end Sept. 20 and the dog will officially join the Stanfield Police Sept. 23.

The commissioners also adopted a K-9 ordinance created by the police detailing the policies, procedures and responsibilities pertaining the operation of the police’s canine unit.

The dog will be deployed for the Town of Stanfield.

The next town council meeting will be 7 p.m. Oct. 3.
