An accident occurred Tuesday in Red Cross involving a tri-axle truck and a Buick that sent three people to the hospital.

At 11:30 a.m., Willard Lilly Jr. of Gold Hill was traveling west in his 2001 Buick along N.C. Highway 24-27 when he ran a red light and was T-boned by Robert Jernigan of Kernersville, who was driving his 2014 Freightliner truck south along Ridgecrest Road, according to N.C. State Highway Patrol Trooper A.C. McLester.

Gary Gene Gulledge and Jonathan Bradley Gulledge of Kannapolis, who were passengers in Lilly’s car, were airlifted to Atrium Health in Charlotte and are still in critical condition. Lilly was taken to Atrium Health-Stanly and was later released. Jernigan had no injuries.
