Three Stanly football teams took to the field Friday night but only two were able to finish their games the same evening. (Sports Editors Note: The South Stanly story was updated after this article’s original publication online.)

South Stanly 20, South Davidson 14

The Bulls’ YVC road game at South Davidson Friday was suspended with 4:02 left in the third quarter due to lightning in the area.

Both teams resumed the game one night later where each scored another touchdown and the Bulls (3-2, 1-0 YVC) earned a 20-14 conference win.

The two teams played a scoreless first quarter Friday before Bulls quarterback Jaquez Cooke rushed for a two-yard touchdown and threw an 84-yard TD pass to Malik Kluttz.

South Davidson (0-5, 0-1) answered with a rushing touchdown in the final 90 seconds of the first half.

Cooke threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Quavi Caraway with 1:07 left in the third quarter putting the Bulls back up by two scores.

South Davidson added a score with 6:42 left in the game on a short touchdown run.

The Bulls tried to keep the ball in the final minutes, going for it on a fourth down and long at the team’s own 32-yard line but coming up short.

South Davidson took over and drove in the final seconds down inside the Bulls’ 10-yard line. An offsides on the Bulls put the Wildcats at the 2-yard line but the Bulls’ Camren Huneycutt and Trevor Tucker stopped Keith Davis running off tackle on fourth down to preserve the win.

South Stanly plays at North Rowan (3-3, 1-0 YVC) Friday night.

Albemarle 55, Chatham Central 9

The Bulldogs ended a five-game losing and earned the school’s 14th win in 16 games lifetime over the Bears.

Albemarle built a fast lead scoring three first-quarter touchdowns and eventually leading at halftime, 41-3.

The Bulldogs travel to North Moore (1-3, 0-1 YVC) on Friday night. The Mustangs lost at North Rowan on Friday, 39-0.

Forest Hills 42, North Stanly 28

The Comets dropped to 1-4 overall with a road loss to the Jackets (3-3).

Karee Dykes scored a rushing touchdown for the Comets while quarterback Luke Shaver added two rushing TDs for North and threw a touchdown pass in the second half.

North Stanly opens conference play Friday against Chatham Central (0-6, 0-1 YVC).
