The Stanly Board of Commissioners Monday approved an asset purchase agreement for the county to take over Richfield’s sewer collection system.

All of the required easements and property will be transferred by Richfield to the county. The county will also assume the outstanding loan of approximately $225,000 associated with the system the town had with Uwharrie Bank.

The loan will be repaid by the revenue generated by the collection system.

The plan has been in the works for the last year and a half, Richfield Town Administrator Carolyn Capps said.

County Manager Andy Lucas said the county already transmits Richfield’s sewer, along with Misenheimer and New London, to Albemarle for treatment.

The county hopes to close on the deal and finalize it by Friday.

No rate increases will occur for Richfield residents after the county acquires the system.

The commissioners also:

–Re-appointed Tammy Albertson, Rod Barbee, Tate Daniels, Beth Harkey, Dr. Heather Hill, Becky McKeon, Chris Lambert, Stacy Ragsdale, Brian Simpson, Mary Walls and Becky Weemhoff to the Transportation Advisory Board for extension for 2020-2022.

–Re-appointed Deloris Chambers and Danny Bowen to the Senior Services Advisory Board for another three-year term while also appointing Brenda Spencer and Bill Rigsbee to serve three-year terms.

–Appointed James Bernacki as Region F Aging Advisory Committee Alternate Delegate.

–Approved naming the Stanly County Senior Center auditorium as Stanly Room, the biggest classroom connected to the large meeting room, as the Hinson Room, in memory of Clarence and Ethel Hinson, and the smaller classroom adjacent to the large meeting room as the Friends Room, since the Friends of the Senior Center funded the construction of the room.

–Re-appointed Joyce Ross to the Nursing Homes Community Advisory Committee for a three-year term.

–Proclaimed October to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
