The Gray Stone men’s soccer team opened the first of six straight home matches on Monday with a 7-1 win over South Stanly.

Sammy Hatley led the Knights (11-1-1, 8-0 YVC) with two goals while five others (Keegan Vang, David Almond, Eric Strohecker, Cameron Pierson and Judson Bullard) added a goal. Andrew Beohler had two assists while Vang and Connor Morin added an assist each.

The Knights led 2-0 at the half on goals from Vang and Hatley.

After leading 5-0, an own goal from the Knights was the only goal of the match for the Rebel Bulls (3-7-1, 2-5).

Gray Stone head coach Bradley Harrington said starting the season with a tough road loss to Watauga was a good test early to see where they were at as a team.

Harrington said the team’s mentality in practice to push and challenge each other to get better, which has been a big factor in the team’s streak this season.

“They have been very receptive to what I’m coaching on and off the field,” Harrington said. “I have to credit my team coming to practice every day with the attitude of wanting to get better.”

The long homestand for the Knights continues Wednesday against South Davidson (0-9, 0-6).
