Stanly Volleyball Notebook: Oct. 28

In 1A West Region first-round volleyball playoff matchups, South Stanly hosted Swain County, Gray Stone was at home against Pine Lake Prep and North Stanly traveled to Highlands.

North Stanly 3, Highlands 0

The Comets made the long road trip to the mountains and swept the Highlanders with scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 27-25.

North will again venture westward Tuesday night when the No. 25 ranked Comets take on No. 9 Murphy (23-3) who won via forfeit over Union Academy.

Swain County 3, South Stanly 0

The No. 14 ranked Rebel Bulls’ season ended Saturday with a three-set loss to the Maroon Devils with scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-23.

South (12-13) graduates one senior from the team this season, outsider hitter Mattie Hinson.

Pine Lake Prep 3, Gray Stone 0

The Knights’ season ended with a home loss to the Pride in straight sets (25-15, 25-23 and 25-15).

Gray Stone (15-6) graduates one senior from the team this season in Sidney Webster.
