NCDOT proposes roundabout in western Stanly

A proposed roundabout is under consideration by NCDOT at the intersection of N.C. Highway 205 and Liberty Hill Church Road/Big Lick Road.

“We identified this location as need based on traffic volumes, accident pattern history and that it did not meet signal warrants for a traffic signal,” NCDOT district engineer Marc Morgan said.

A roundabout was determined to be a good solution to meet the needs of the intersection.

Morgan said the project is in its early planning stage and no design has been determined. NCDOT has only started gathering its survey data.

The roundabout idea was first presented to the county commissioners during their Sept. 9 meeting.

The project is scheduled to be let in March 2021 and completed by December 2021, though Morgan said the dates can be fluid depending on work schedules and availability of funding at the time.
