West Stanly’s Jordan Poole suffers injury, out for Friday

Friday’s showdown for first place in the Rocky River Conference football standings between West Stanly and Anson County will find the Colts without one of the team’s star players.

Junior running back and safety Jordan Poole suffered a possible sprain or strain to his left shoulder in last week’s win for the Colts over Montgomery Central. It will keep him out of Friday’s game.

The West running back was scheduled to go to the doctor this week. His status for the rest of the season has not yet been determined.

Poole leads West and the county with 1,834 all-purpose yards, including 1,534 rushing and 282 receiving. He has scored 25 touchdowns, including 21 on the ground, and has accounted for 166 of the Colts’ 363 points this season, scoring 20.8 points per game.

He recently added another Div. I school to the list of places offering full scholarships when the University of Virginia sent an offer to Poole. Virginia Tech, East Carolina, N.C. State and South Carolina also have given offers to the West junior.

West Stanly head coach Brett Morton said the team’s efforts in practice this week to prepare for Friday’s game without Poole have been the same as usual.
