Stanly County Schools bus, tractor trailer, truck involved in accident

A Stanly County Schools bus was in a multiple vehicle accident Thursday morning.

Some students received minor injuries after a tractor-trailer truck headed westbound on N.C. Highway 24-27 failed to reduce its speed and hit a Ford F-150 truck around 7:19 a.m., according to the N.C. Highway Patrol. The truck then hit school bus No. 80, which was transporting 25 students to West Stanly high and middle schools. It was near Converse Drive, as the bus was awaiting to pick up a student.

Two students were treated for minor injuries, according to the highway patrol, but Stanly County Schools said seven students were treated and the bus driver was taken to the hospital. Four students were transported to Atrium Health Stanly.

The driver of the pickup received minor injuries. The big rig’s driver was transported to Carolinas Medical Center – Main, Highway Patrol said.
