Albemarle men’s basketball improves to 2-1 with Friday road win

With seven players available Friday night due to the football team’s playoff run, the Albemarle men’s basketball team earned a 65-55 road win over the Covenant Classical Warriors.

The Bulldogs (2-1) were led by M.J. Raye with 19 points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds.

Ali Currie added 18 points, five rebounds and three steals while Camarie McNeil posted his first double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, adding four steals and three assists.

Covenant Classical (3-3) took an early lead 14-6 with five minutes left in the first period before Albemarle rallied to take a lead at halftime, 28-26.

Albemarle head coach Marc Raye said the Bulldogs used pressure in the second half to extend the lead continuing to press throughout the half.

“Although we are very young, we are aggressive and believe in each other,” Coach Raye said.

“When the football players return, it’s going to get better. Having that varsity experience will give us a greater push.”

Albemarle travels to West Stanly Tuesday night.
