Nominations are being accepted by the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce board for the annual Stanly County Citizen of the Year award.

In order to be eligible, the person nominated must live in the county, must not have won the award previously and must have made significant contributions to the citizens of the county either through professional work, through political office or through volunteer work.

“We’d like to make sure that we know about anybody that’s really qualified and done good work,” said Dr. Michael Riemann, who serves on the board of the Chamber. “Sometimes people just get overlooked and we don’t want that to happen this time.”

The first award was given to Leon Warren in 1996, Riemann said. 

Recommendations should include the name and contact information of the person or organization making the recommendation and name and contact information of the nominee, including any pertinent personal information and history of the nominee along with a detailed description of the contributions he or she has made to the citizens of the county. 

Recommendations are due by Dec. 31 and can either be emailed to interim Chamber president Sandy Selvy-Mullis (sandy@stanlychamber.org) or mailed to the Chamber at Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, Citizenship Award, 16 E. North St., Albemarle, NC 28002.
