The West Stanly men’s basketball team made it five wins in a row to start the season with a home non-conference win Tuesday night over Wheatmore, 75-64.

Austin Medlin continued his strong start in scoring to the season leading West (5-0) with 35 points, 27 coming in the second half.

Ethan Conner added 11 points off the bench for West including back-to-back 3-pointers in the first half which kept the Colts in the game, according to head coach John Thompson.

Brack Morgan reached double figures for West with 10 points.

“Brack gave us a tremendous game. He hit a couple of big shots but his energy and defense really put us over the top,” Thompson said.

“We beat a really good team tonight. I loved our energy. We weren’t perfect by any stretch but we fought and did a great job of closing out quarters.”

West’s coach also credited play off the bench from Conner, Nathan Brown, Tayshawn Haywood and Avery Little, saying their efforts kept the Colts a little more fresh down the stretch than the Warriors (3-2).

The Colts travel to East Rowan Friday.
