Recent problems with the fire alarm system at West Stanly High School have been fixed, according to officials with Stanly County Schools.

Hope Miller, administrative assistant for SCS, said via email some insulation around a wire broke down in a conduit and grounded out the wire, which was causing the false alarm. She added the wire has been replaced.

At the Dec. 3 women’s basketball game between West and North Stanly, a fire alarm was triggered just before the end of the game.

Stanly County Sheriff’s Office deputies cleared the gym of fans and players, sending teams back to the locker room, while officials determined if there was a fire.

When no fire was found, fans and players were allowed back in the gym and the women’s game was finished along with the men’s basketball contest.
