The West Stanly men’s basketball team stopped a three-game losing slide Thursday night with a 66-55 road win at Albemarle.

Austin Medlin led four in double figures for the Colts (7-3) with 24 points including nine in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Tayshawn Haygood scored 17 for the Colts, 14 coming in the second half, while Trevor Kelly scored 11 points and Jake Bartell had 10.

M.J. Raye was top scorer for the Bulldogs (4-7) with 17 points including 10 in the second period. Antonio Burns added 10 points off the bench for the Bulldogs.

West played Thursday night without three players who were injured, including Brack Morgan (concussion), Ethan Conner (ankle) and Avery Little (flu).

“It was a tough, physical game. I was proud of how we battled especially being shorthanded,” West head coach John Thompson said.

“Tayshawn played his best game and gave us a big lift. Austin made tough shots when we needed them and Trevor and Jake were really good defensively down the stretch.”

West will be off until Jan. 2 when the Colts travel to Kannapolis to take on A.L. Brown.
