The Albemarle women’s basketball team continued to build momentum on Friday night with a Yadkin Valley Conference home win over Chatham Central, 51-47.

Krystin McLendon led Albemarle (3-6, 2-3 YVC) with 18 points while Shada Wall added 17 points and O’Jayy Stanback reached double figures and a career-high with 13 points.

Albemarle led by as many as 18 points in the second quarter over the Bears (4-6, 2-2) but Chatham responded in the third quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 14-4 to get within four points, the eventual margin of victory for the hosts.

“O’Jayy, Shada and Krystin came up huge,” Albemarle head coach Eric Davis said.

The Bulldogs open the 2019 Laurie Ann Cruse Christmas Classic at Mount Pleasant Friday at 9 a.m. taking on 3A Concord (2-7).
