In non-conference basketball action Wednesday night, the West Stanly Colts avenged an earlier loss to South Stanly this season with a 47-42 road win.
Ethan Conner led West (9-5) with 20 points while Caleb Ferree added 10 points. West’s leading scorer, Austin Medlin, was limited to nine points in the game.
Justin Gaddy was the top scorer in the game scoring 24 points to lead South (8-5).
The Colts limited South to a season low in points scored in the game while West’s point total was just the fourth time this season the Colts had scored 50 points or less.
“I was really pleased with our defense last night. It was one of those tough, tough games where both teams are playing extremely hard and neither shot it well but a lot of that was due to some pretty good defense,” West head coach John Thompson said.
The Colts coach adde Brack Morgan played solid defense on the permieter and Feree may have been the team’s player of the game.
“Besides scoring he really sets us up on offense with his movement and spacing,” Thompson said.
“West really got after it defensively tonight,” South head coach Sean Whitley said. “Our defense was pretty good all night also.”
Whitley said he felt the Bulls adjusted well in the second half but West hit free throws down the stretch to close it out. The Colts were 10-of-14 from the line in the final period.
West returns to Rocky River Conference play Friday hosting Austin Medlin while South Stanly travels to North Moore for a Yadkin Valley Conference game.
