Car leads law enforcement on 100 mph chase from Montgomery to Stanly

Four passengers of a Chevrolet Cruze that engaged in a high-speed car chase with law enforcement were taken into custody by multiple law enforcement agencies in the county Friday morning after the car crashed into a ditch in Albemarle.
According to First Sgt. J.M. Jackson of the State Highway Patrol, Trooper E.P. Page of Montgomery was chasing the car along N.C. Highway 24 Thursday night after he clocked the car traveling at 104 miles per hour. The car was traveling westbound toward Stanly.
Even though Page turned on his blue lights and siren, the car did not stop.
Sgt. E.P. Phillips instructed Page to end the chase after the car crossed into Stanly. Albemarle Police deployed stop sticks, a tire-deflation device, that caused the car to run into a ditch.
The four passengers fled the scene and were eventually captured by various law enforcement agencies, including Norwood Police and the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office, in the county early Friday morning, Jackson said.
The identities of the passengers were not immediately released.
