“Be A Stanly Life Changer!” was the theme for the Stanly Community College (SCC) Foundation Employee Giving Campaign 2019.

The campaign ran for two weeks in November and raised $30,189, with an 87 percent participation rate. During the two weeks of campaigning, numerous events were planned to help raise funds.

During the kickoff event, Foundation Chairman Lee Pickler and several board members were available to hand out campaign literature to employees.

“On behalf of the Foundation Board, I want to thank each faculty and staff member for what you do for the students every day,” Pickler said. “Often, educators do not receive the thanks and encouragement they deserve. I want each of you to know that you are appreciated and you are the leading life changers in Stanly County and beyond. I am honored to be a part of this College and encouraged by the commitment of giving by SCC employees.”

Stanly Community College President Dr. John Enamait played an active role in the many fundraising events during the campaign.

He posed for photographs with employees for social media posts, hosted video promotions for employee raffles, and was an active spokesperson throughout the two-week campaign.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the faculty and staff for their support and financial assistance provided to the Foundation,” Enamait said. “You are truly changing the lives of almost 11,000 students each year. The ripple effect of that number quickly rises when you add family members and friends who are also impacted by the gifts to our students.”

The Foundation awards approximately 70 scholarships each year averaging around $95,000 to students.

Two of SCC’s current scholarship recipients assisted with the promotion of the employee campaign by sharing how the Foundation funds impacted their lives.

SCC Radiography Technology student Hannah Ross, from Albemarle, said: “This scholarship has helped lighten the financial burden for me. Stanly has changed my life by giving me a new perspective and hope to finish something that I started.”

SCC Associate Degree Nursing student Joy Sharpe, from Mt. Gilead, added: “SCC changed my life by providing a place where I can get a quality education and become the nurse that I want to be.”

All proceeds from the 2019 Employee Campaign will go to scholarships, program needs, student emergency fund and campus improvements.
