In Yadkin Valley Conference basketball games Thursday night, Albemarle hosted South Stanly while North Stanly traveled to Gray Stone.

Comets, Knights split

The Gray Stone women’s basketball team made it 15 wins in a row this season with a 51-25 win over the Comets.

Danielle Werts led Gray Stone (15-0, 9-0) with 11 points as 12 different Knights scored in the win.

Lexi Goode led North (6-9, 6-5) with 12 points.

The Knights did not allow North to score a field goal in the first half.

On the men’s side, Koby Poole led North (10-8, 7-4) with 15 points while Dyson Bell added 11 in a 59-40 win over the Knights.

Marshall Overcash led Gray Stone with 13 points while David Almond added 12.

Albemarle women, South men earn wins

The Bulldog women opened the night with a 57-39 win.

Shada Wall led Albemarle (8-12, 6-6) with 28 points while Krystin McLendon added 14 and O’Jayy Stanback scored 10.

D’Nysia Wall led South with 12 points while Sadie Lee added 10.

On the men’s side, South pulled away in the first quarter and earned a 70-45 win.

Jaquez Cooke led South Stanly (14-5, 9-2) with 20 points while Justin Gaddy added 19 points. Gaddy enters tonight’s home game with South Davidson needing eight points to reach 1,000 for his career.

M.J. Raye inched closer to 1,000 career points leading the Bulldogs with 20. He is now 73 points away from the mark.
