Stanly County Schools introduced a proposed new calendar for the 2021-2022 school year during its most recent school board meeting. The calendar has many noticeable changes compared to the current school calendar and ones in the past.

The first semester would end Dec. 17, 2021, meaning exams would be completed before students leave for Christmas break. This would represent a major break from prior calendars when exams were taken after the break.

The first day of school would begin Aug. 4, 2021 and school would end May 25, 2022. There would be 180 instructional days, compared to 177 during the current school year.

The school board unanimously approved the proposed calendar.
