Man drowns on Lake Tillery
A 70-year-old Albemarle man drowned Wednesday afternoon on Lake Tillery.
N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission Officer Ty Andrus said someone called 911 around 2 p.m. after seeing James Darrell Kimrey fall from his boat just north of the Stony Mountain Access Area near the Stanly-Montgomery county line.
“It seems that he had an equipment malfunction on one of his seats on his boat and that caused him to fall overboard,” Andrus said.
The fisherman was not wearing a lifejacket, Andrus said.
Besides Andrus and Officer Darby Enoch, several rescue squads responded to the scene.
