SCS to operate on three-hour delay Friday; games canceled

Based on current weather predictions of freezing temperature until mid-morning tomorrow, Stanly County Schools will operate on a three-hour delay on Friday for travel safety, according to information sent to The Stanly News and Press from Hope Miller, SCS administrative and board assistant.

Early start elementary schools (Badin, Endy, Locust and Norwood) will begin school at 10:25 a.m., Stanly Academy Learning Center will begin at 10:45 a.m. and the middle schools and traditional high schools will begin at 10:55 a.m.

Stanly STEM Early College will begin at 11:25 a.m., while Stanly Early College and Oakboro Choice STEM School will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Late start elementary schools (Aquadale, Central, East Albemarle, Millingport, Richfield and Stanfield) will begin at 11:55 a.m.

The school system will re-evaluate weather condition updates Thursday evening and will communicate if changes need to be made.

SCS has also canceled all games for Thursday, with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association also postponing the opening round of the individual wrestling state finals in Greensboro.
