Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary organization for teachers, met Feb. 13 at Trinity Place.

President Audrey Rigsbee introduced Daniel Harkey as the guest speaker.

Harkey, an employee of Atrium Health, spoke to the group on ways to have a healthy heart. He discussed the importance of a healthy diet and 20 minutes of exercise a day and also to eat sugar and salt in moderation. He talked about  the importance of reading food labels.

During the business part of the meeting, members were encouraged to attend the state convention,  which will be in Durham April 17-19.

Members will bring books to be taken to the convention for the altruistic project, Book Harvest, books for children from birth through high school.

A committee was elected to have a slate of officers  to be presented at the April meeting.

The next meeting will be March 12 at Trinity Place.
