NCHSAA releases basketball playoff brackets

The NCHSAA released the 2020 state basketball playoff brackets Sunday afternoon with first-round games scheduled for Tuesday.

1A Basketball

The Gray Stone women, on the heels of winning the Yadkin Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles, received a No. 5 seed in the Western Region of the state playoffs.

With a record of 23-1, the Knights host No. 28 Avery County (5-19) at 6 p.m. The two teams last met in the 2017 playoffs where the Vikings beat Gray Stone in Misenheimer 55-39.

In the 1A East Region, North Stanly received a No. 29 seed. The Comets (8-13) will travel to No. 4 Holmes (20-6).

On the men’s side, South Stanly (19-6) was seeded 14th in the Western Region and will host No. 19 Queen’s Grant (18-10) at 7 p.m.

North Stanly (14-11) faces a familiar opponent in the first round. The Comets, seeded 26th in the West, will travel to Spencer to take on No. 7 North Rowan (20-7).

This season, North Stanly lost both regular-season match-ups with North Rowan, 66-47 and 64-55.

2A Basketball

West Stanly (16-10) received a No. 15 seed in the 2A Western Region and will host No. 18 West Wilkes (18-6) at 6 p.m.

On the men’s side, the Colts (16-11) earned a No. 25 seed in the West and travels Tuesday at 7 p.m. to No. 8 Lake Norman Charter (20-6).
