We have always known that Stanly County is “super,” but this year we get to be part of something super across the country.

North Carolina is one of the states involved in Super Tuesday, a day where the most delegates are up for grabs in a single voting day. Other states are California, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama Virginia, Minnesota, Colorado, Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts. American Samoa and Democrats abroad can also cast ballots during Super Tuesday. So following the big first four contests of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, we are involved in a pretty big deal.

Obviously with President Donald Trump facing no major opposition in the primary, the main focus this Super Tuesday will be on the Democratic side for the presidential election. But we have plenty of contests on the local side.

We never make endorsements based on our opinion. During the last presidential election, we were “encouraged” to run an endorsement for a particular candidate. We did not want to do it, but it was the prerogative of prior ownership.

Going forward we have no plans to make a public endorsement of a candidate, whether it be presidential, county commission, school board or city council.

We plan to focus on profiling the candidate and his or her reasons for running. Our goal is to give you the information you need to make an informed decision, but not to tell you what that decision should be.

We encourage you to pack the polls this Tuesday and let Stanly have a super turnout.
