The Stanly County Board of Education made moves Tuesday night to continue certain Stanly County Schools operations without state funds.

Georgia Harvey, SCS chief financial officer, asked the board to pass a resolution to give to the Board of Commissioners. The resolution was for an amendment to transfer $500,000 from the county’s capital outlay fund to the SCS general operating fund.

Harvey said SCS was expecting funding from the state for the STEM Early College program but the state budget has not been passed.

The second resolution was for state appropriation for continued operation of Stanly STEM Early College.

The resolution stated for the Board of Education to ask a local delegation to introduce a local bill to provide the funding for the early college.

The resolutions passed unanimously.

Three other amendments included revising state allotments, the fund transfer and the use of $400,000 to SCS instructional services.

Chairman Melvin Poole asked if the money in the fund transfer would be reimbursed by the state if a budget were to be passed. Harvey said she hoped that is what would happen.

The amendments passed.
