The Stanfield Town Council passed a motion during its meeting Thursday night affirming adoption of the Pete Henkel Park Master Plan along with a three-year community improvement plan for the park.

The town is seeking a grant from N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) to help fund the park’s expansion and renovations.

Last month, Stanfield held a public hearing discussing a preliminary plan for the park that added several new improvements including disc golf, cornhole and horseshoe games, new playgrounds and adult fitness equipment. The plan also calls for updating the bathrooms and making them more handicap accessible and building another single stall restroom. The town also wants to pave around the concession stands and Outfield Circle.

With the master plan and three-year community improvement plan approved, Town Administrator Bridgette Helms said the PARTF application has been sent to the state. The town also applied for a PARTF grant last year.

The town council also:

• Approved a recommendation to send a request to rezone both Pete Henkel Park and Log Barn Park to public recreation. A public hearing is planned for next month’s meeting.

• Listened as Police Chief Corie Faggart announced the department acquired a new full-time officer who will begin training.

The next town council meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 2.
