The Pfeiffer University softball team won their 12th straight game on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Wilkes University at Jack Ingram Field. with scores of 5-3 and 5-1.

In the opening game, visiting Wilkes (6-5) bolted to a 3-0 lead in the third inning.  The Colonels’ Erin Cabry started the inning with a home run that hugged the left field line, giving the visitors the 1-0 lead.  A Pfeiffer fielding error allowed the second run to score while an RBI single plated the third run of the inning.

Reece Davis then put the Falcons (12-1) on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third scoring Hailey Myers.

Kari Westerbeek continued her offensive onslaught, as she ripped a two-RBI single to the left center gap, allowing Myers and Paige Love to score, tying the game at 3-3.

Hannah Tyner belted a solo home run in the fifth to put the Falcons up 4-3 and Myers singled home a run three batters later to provide the eventual 5-3 final.

Caiti Mickles pitched 3.2 innings for the Falcons in earning the win. She allowed just two hits and struck out two Colonel batters in the game.

In Game Two, Kari Westerbeek and Sara Brown each hit a two-run home run in helping Pfeiffer to the 5-1 win.  Westerbeek’s blast came in the first inning, while Brown’s round-tripper came in the fifth inning.  Davis also was credited with an RBI after being walked with the bases loaded in the second inning.

Wilkes’ lone run came in the third on an RBI double from Rachel Pritchard.

Ashlynn Kennedy earned the win for Pfeiffer, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing just one run on two hits.  Kennedy also struck out a pair of Colonels in the win.
