Softball

South Stanly 14, Chatham Central 0

The Bulls finally opened the team’s 2020 schedule Friday with a lopsided five-inning Yadkin Valley Conference win.

Sadie Lee threw a five-inning no-hitter for South with five strikeouts. Only two Bears reached base, including a hurt batter and another reaching on a fielding error.

Mattie Hinson and Holly Barrier each had two-run home runs for the Bulls while Huntley Rummage drove in three runs.

The Bulls travel to North Rowan Tuesday.

Men’s Tennis

North Stanly 5, West Stanly 4

On Friday, North Stanly (2-1) edged out West Stanly (0-2),  5-4. The teams were tied 3-3 after singles, with North capturing 2, 5, and 6 singles and West winning at 1,3, and 4.

The match was again tied 4-4 after the two teams split the top 2 doubles matches with West winning the No. 1 seeded match and the Comets winning the second.

Malachi Cord and Kong Shia Moua pulled off the win at No. 3 doubles to give North the match.
