Gray Stone Day School won the Stanly County High School Quiz Bowl Feb. 15 at Stanly Community College.

The academic competition allows high school students the opportunity to demonstrate academic excellence by responding to questions on a wide variety of academic subjects. Questions often include sports, art, music and literature.

Each of the following schools brought two teams to participate in the double elimination competition: Albemarle, Gray Stone, North Stanly, South Stanly, Stanly Early College and West Stanly.

The winning Gray Stone team will compete in the Regional Quiz Bowl at 1 p.m. March 28 in the Schechter Auditorium of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library.

“On behalf of the Quiz Bowl Committee, I would like to say thank you to everyone that helped make the quiz bowl such a success. The event would not be possible without the support of the faculty and staff at SCC and the community leaders who volunteer as officials,” said Tanya Nicks, chairwoman of the Quiz Bowl Committee and psychology instructor at SCC. “The high school teachers who coach the teams and the students who participate prepare for months for this event. The wealth of knowledge displayed is absolutely stunning.”
